{"id":2713,"date":"2014-08-22T11:52:02","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T15:52:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/?p=2713"},"modified":"2026-04-11T04:49:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T08:49:04","slug":"are-you-an-early-bird-or-night-owl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/are-you-an-early-bird-or-night-owl\/","title":{"rendered":"Are You an Early Bird or Night Owl?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/4293345633_d5e13e2927_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2727 alignleft\" title=\"4293345633_d5e13e2927_o\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/4293345633_d5e13e2927_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/4293345633_d5e13e2927_o.jpg 700w, https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/4293345633_d5e13e2927_o-205x300.jpg 205w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/a>Have you ever noticed how some people are clearly morning people while others are seem to be night owls?<\/p>\n<p>Early birds, or &#8220;larks&#8221; as some call them, rise early and easily. \u00a0They&#8217;re typically in a good mood (which can really annoy night owls!) and can be pretty productive or creative in the wee hours of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Night owls, on the other hand, \u00a0start getting into their groove later into the evening or night. \u00a0This is usually the time of the day when they get their best work done and have the most energy. \u00a0And, they&#8217;ll usually tell you outright that they are NOT morning people!<\/p>\n<p>If you have a preference for one over the other, there are some real reasons why. \u00a0According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/sleep-disorders\/features\/cm\/early-bird-night-owl\" target=\"_blank\">WebMD<\/a>\u00a0being an early bird or a night owl is all about your personal circadian rhythm &#8211; also know as your internal clock. There&#8217;s also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/night-owl-sleep_b_4276411\" target=\"_blank\">other research<\/a> that shows actual differences in the brain between the two types as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Does it Matter?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll hear people say that &#8220;the early bird gets the worm&#8221; and that getting a jump start on the day will help you to get more done. \u00a0And it may be true for some people.<\/p>\n<p>But it has also been said that night owls can be more productive and creative. \u00a0Some also say that they&#8217;re more relaxed, and on average need less sleep.<\/p>\n<p>But as we always say, go with what works for you! \u00a0No matter what your preference, its important to embrace your own natural pattern and not struggle to make yourself different than how you are.<\/p>\n<p>Early birds definitely benefit from the fact that a day time schedule is what the outside world works on. \u00a0But, if you&#8217;re not an early riser, no need to fight it. \u00a0Take advantage of the night hours when your brain is at its best and most creative. \u00a0Sleep in and arrange a later work or school schedule if you can.<\/p>\n<p>And the same goes for early birds. \u00a0If you get up early you might need a mid-day <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepajamacompany.com\/blog\/the-art-of-napping\/\" target=\"_blank\">nap<\/a>. \u00a0And, there&#8217;s no need to force yourself to stay awake for those late night movies either.
