8 Things to Do in Your PJs this Weekend

Sometimes you just need a break. Whether you’ve had a hard week or you’re just feeling tired out from the day to day hustle.

So this weekend, we give you permission to be totally and completely lazy! Stay in your pajamas all day long, relax, and maybe even do something you wouldn’t normally do…

Here are 8 things to do in your pajamas this weekend:

1.  Have an ice cream sundae party.

Ahhh…real ice cream sundaes?  Yes, pleeeeease.  Get out your favorite ice cream flavor, sprinkes, whip cream, and chocolate sauce and go to town.  If you’re a peanut butter lover, you’ve got to check out this recipe for Friendly’s peanut butter sauce…don’t forget the Reese’s pieces!  Yum!!!

Check out these silly girls who take ice cream sundaes in pajamas to a whole new level!

2. Lifetime movie marathon, anyone?

Yep, they are totally cheezy with predictable and often absurd story lines – a guilty pleasure for sure. but there’s just something about a good Lifetime movie that we can’t quite quit. Check for the latest schedule here.

3. Get messy & bake some cookies!

Baking cookies is messy and takes time.  So stay in your jammies and declare it a cookie day – the household chores can wait! Bake your favorite recipe, have fun decorating, and enjoy the yummy fruits of your labor.

4.  Learn to Yo-Yo.

I know, a little adolescent, but Saturday is National Yo-Yo Day after all! So channel your inner child brush up on your skills.  You’ll be walking the dog in no time!

5. Read Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Chances are you’ve seen the movie, but have you read the book? You might be interested to learn that the Holly Golightly portrayed in Truman Copote’s orginal work is a bit different – and darker – that the character in the movie!

6.  Do something crafty.

Get creative! Knit a blanket or sew an easy tote bag.  Maybe screen print a cool t-shirt for Father’s Day? We found a whole bunch of fun ideas on Pinterest for weekend crafting.

7. (Pajama) Jam to the oldies.

When’s the last time you chilled out and enjoyed your favorite music from way, way back? Whether the oldies of your day are on vinyl or i-tunes, break them out and get down.  Maybe it’s Motown, The Beatles, Disco, 80’s Hair Bands, or possibly some early Britney Spears.  It’s all about your jams, in your jams!

8.  Do a jigsaw puzzle.

Jigsaw puzzles take many hours to complete, and we think pajamas are pretty much the only way to dress for it.  Not only are they fun to do with friends and family, but puzzles are actually a good way to keep your brain sharp too – using both side of your brain with logic and creativity.  So ditch the i-pad and turn off the TV and instead do something low tech this weekend.  We love this colorful cereal box puzzle!

7 Shows to Binge Watch in Your Pajamas

Not surprisingly, one of our favorite things to do in our cozy PJs, is to settle in under the blankets with plenty of snacks and watch a good show marathon. Here are some of our favorite binge-worthy shows:

1. Gilmore Girls

If you don’t know this show, you’ll love the wit and banter of Rory and Lorelei – mother and daughter and best friends living in the small town of Stars Hollow. Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaides, Tammy) also plays Lorelei’s friend and coworker in a more tame, but still funny role.

We love that these girls are the queens of movie nights that usually consist of classic old movies, candy, popcorn, and take-out of kinds.  What’s more, they’re often seen wearing the fun prints of PJ Salvage. Oh, and there’s seven seasons of this show so be prepared for the long-haul!

2. The Fall

Gillian Anderson (Skully from the X Files) stars in this thriller as a detective in Belfast trying to catch a serial killer.  It’s dark, serious, and a great story. Prepare to be creeped out! Fun fact: The killer is played by none other than Jamie Dornan, of the Christian Grey fame.

3. Last Tango in Halifax

After 60 years apart, two widowed high school sweet hearts finally get together – reunited through Facebook, of course. This may sound a little sleepy, but actually quite interesting and entertaining – particularly the troubled lives of their grown-up daughters. Try it, you’ll be hooked!

4. Parenthood

Parenthood is a family show that actually feels authentic and close to real life. It has an awesome cast including Lauren Graham from The Gilmore Girls and really great characters. It’s surprisingly good and it will leave you totally wanting to be a Braverman!

5. House of Cards

A dark and devious political drama with Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright as husband and wife. You definitely have to have an interest in politics to watch this, but the relationship between husband and wife is pretty intriguing as well. Bonus? Robin Wrights’s character Claire can be seen wearing some pretty fabulous silk pajamas!

6. Heart of Dixie

Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) is a NY doctor who ends up in the small southern town of Bluebell, Alabama. So this show can be a little silly at times, but it’s simply sweet and charming.  If you need something light or more family friendly, this is your show.

7. Scandal

Olivia Pope plays a former White House staffer who opens her own crisis management firm. There are tons of twists and turns in this show and it’s admittedly a little Soap Opera-ish, but for some reason it hooks you. What we really love: Olivia Pope’s outfits, especially her fluffy robes and PJs and giant glasses of red wine!

Oh, and you SHOULD be forewarned of the dangers of binge-watching…here’s a cautionary tale from Portlandia:

It’s Holiday Movie Time!

It’s the holiday season, which means time for holiday movie pajama nights! Let’s face it, it’s cold and dark outside and there’s no better reason to stay in, get cozy, and watch a holiday classic with some hot cocoa and kettle corn!

Today we’re sharing our top ten favorite holiday movies:

1. White Christmas – Nothing says classic holiday like White Christmas and Bing Crosby. This is a must-watch for the music and dancing. So fun!

2. The Muppet Christmas Carol – The Muppet characters tell the story of the classic Dickens holiday tale. We all need a little Miss Piggy and Kermit around the holidays!

3. Holiday Inn – Another classic musical holiday movie complete with the team of Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. The song “White Christmas” actually originated from this movie.

4. Elf – The goofy story of Buddy the Elf played by Will Farrell. Totally silly and super cute!

5. Christmas Vacation – The Griswold family – need we say more?  In my family it’s a requirement to watch this movie at least once during the holidays. Cousin Eddie and company will get you every time.

6. The Holiday – A love story split between LA and the English country side. This one will give you a great boost of holiday spirit (and is worth watching just to see the scenes of Kate Winslett’s character’s majestic English cottage!)

7. Love Actually – Such a feel good movie, with an a-list cast, and a heart-warming message that “love is actually all around us”…

8. How the Grinch Stole Christmas – Jim Carrey is fantastic  and really funny as the Grinch in this Dr. Suess classic. Best described as magical.

9. T’was the Night Before Christmas – If you haven’t seen it, this is the story of a town coming together to get back on Santa’s nice list after he gets an insulting letter.  Trust me, the singing mice don’t disappoint!

10. Frosty the Snowman – I look forward to watching this one every year. Another magical movie with lots of heart.
