Here are 8 of our favorite classic summer movies that are sure to get you ready for all the fun the next few months are sure to bring.

Grease

Grease (1978) – Danny and Sandy. Need we say more? This American classic will bring back so many memories and have you singing along with all your favorite characters from Rydell High.

Summer School

Summer School (1987) – Freddy Shoop (Mark Harmon)is a gym teacher ready for his summer vacation in Hawaii. When he is told he can either teach summer-school English or lose his job, he ends up teaching a group of less than motivated kids not only their curriculum but also a little something about life.

Meatballs

Meatballs (1979) – This movie, about a not-so-typical summer camp stars Bill Murray as Tripper Harrison, Camp North Star’s head counselor. If you’ve ever been to a summer camp, you’ll probably be able to relate to some of the craziness and hijinks the campers and counselors take part in.

Sandlot

The Sandlot (1993) – A perfect ‘for all ages’ summer sports movie, this coming-of-age story is centered around Shy Scotty (Tom Guiry) who moves to a new town and how a little league baseball team helps him adapt.

Caddyshack

Caddyshack (1980) – You’ve never seen a country club like Bushwood. The all-star cast including Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, and Ted Knight will keep you laughing through the entire film and you might even think about taking up golf!

Jaws

Jaws (1975) – Ok so maybe not the best movie to watch if you’re taking a beach vacation this year but Jaws is one of those classic movies you can watch over and over and it will teach you that when someone says get out of the water they mean it!

Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing (1987) – Ahh the memories. You’ll have the time of your life singing and couch dancing along with this summer classic. And don’t forget “Nobody puts Baby in the corner.”

Vacation

National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983) – Hit the road with the Griswolds for their mishap-filled summer vacation. It will make you realize that the little hiccups we may encounter on a road trip aren’t so bad after all.

Dazed and Confused

Dazed and Confused (1993) – Before they were A-listers, Ben Affleck and Matthew McConaughey star in this coming-of–age comedy about what the last day of school might have looked like in the 70’s.

Endless Summer (1)

The Endless Summer (1966) – This is one of the earliest surfing movies and is sure to become one of your favorites. If you’re not traveling this summer this film is the perfect substitute as it takes you all around the world looking for the perfect wave. The scenery is amazing!

The list could go on and on, but if we named all our picks you’d never leave the couch. Instead, take a day, watch to your heart’s content, and then go enjoy the best season of the year!

Throwing the Ultimate Kentucky Derby Party

It’s Kentucky Derby time again and this year looks like we’re going to see things go back to the grand event it was pre-pandemic. That means it’s time to go all-out with the food, drinks, decorations, and attire.

If you’re a Derby fanatic and are planning to host an event this year we’ve got some fun ideas you can incorporate into your party that you may not have thought of.

Brown Sandwich (1)

The Food. Have you ever heard of a ‘Hot Brown Sandwich’? This tasty dish has been a Kentucky Tradition since first created in 1926 by the chef at Louisville’s Brown Hotel. It’s an open-faced sandwich made and the original recipe was made with toast, turkey, tomatoes, and cheese. There are a variety of versions available online so do a quick search and find the one that would best suit your guests. Don’t forget the Derby pie!

Mint Julep Derby (1)

The Drink. The race may only last about 2 minutes but the cocktails you make for the gang will keep you in high spirits all day long. Of course, the Mint Julep is typically the star of the party but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring other libations into the mix. Consider the ‘Oaks Lily’ – made with vodka, the ‘Jockey Club’ which is the cousin of the Manhattan, or the ‘Horses Neck’ made with only 2 ingredients. Don’t forget to have a variety of non-alcoholic beverages on hand for your guests that don’t drink.

thecats springflingclassic800

The Attire. When it comes to getting dressed for the derby you can really use your imagination and have some fun with it. How about a pajama theme? Get dressed in your colorful and bright PJs (instead of fancy dresses and suits), but top the outfit off with fancy hats. Not only will your event be a unique experience for your guests, but they’ll be comfortable as can be enjoying the race.

Pool (1)

The Betting. No Derby party is complete without some friendly wagering between friends. There are many different ways you can place your bets and because a scratch can always happen a short time before the race, you’ll want to do your research on how to handle your betting based on the number of people at your party and also what you think they would be willing to wager. Don’t make it something they’ll think is too expensive or too difficult to figure out. This website offers several different options.

Derby HS (1)

The Games. Since you’ll want your party to last longer than the 2 minutes the race is on, you’re going to want your guests to be entertained the rest of the time. Games like Derby Bingo, ring toss, horseshoes, and pin the tail on the horse will keep everyone laughing and engaged with one another.

However you do Derby Day, we hope you’ll make it an event to remember and one they’ll talk about for years to come. We’d love to see your pictures. Share them over on our Facebook page with the rest of our pajama community!

7 Mother’s Day gifts that won’t break the bank

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, but with goods and services costing more than ever before finding the right gift for Mom that won’t upset your budget could be a challenge. We all know how important it is to celebrate the most important woman in our lives, and doing so in grand form is a must!

Here are some great gift ideas that show love, caring, and gratitude but won’t set you back too much.

Pajamas – Spoiling Mom is what the day is all about and giving her the gift of pajamas shows her that she deserves to relax and pamper herself every day. Here at The Pajama Company, we have so many styles, patterns, and options to choose from you’re sure to find something mom will love. And the best part is when she slips into her wonderful gift every night she’ll be thinking of you!

Potted bulbs

A living plant – Flowers are the number one purchase made on Mother’s Day and but they don’t last and in a week your gift will lose its beauty and be discarded. A live plant can last for years and will be a constant reminder of your thoughtfulness. We love the idea of bulb plants like tulips, daffodils, or hyacinth. They bloom in the pot giving you a gorgeous bouquet and then they can be planted outside where every spring she can enjoy the beautiful blooms all over again.

Gift Basket for Mom (1)

A homemade gift basket. Purchasing a pre-made gift basket can be costly and they don’t always contain items that you would necessarily want to give mom. Instead, build your own with all Mom’s favorites. Get her favorite wine, perfume, some cozy socks, a box of chocolates, a gift card to her favorite store, and anything else that completes the bundle, and deliver it with a handwritten note.

Mother's Day Brunch

Make a special meal. It’s her day to relax and instead of dealing with the crowds at your local eatery, cook up a brunch or dinner full of her favorite foods. You can eat at and visit at home where you’ll have uninterrupted quality time without all the noise and hustle and bustle of eating out. And you won’t have to worry about what may or may not be available as you’ve created a personalized menu just for Mom!

Mom Puzzle (1)

A picture puzzle. Any picture can be turned into a puzzle and once they are put together, they make a great conversation piece. Use a family portrait from years past or take a new one. You can even create a collage image and then turn that into a puzzle. These fun gifts provide hours of entertainment for Mom and if you’re lucky, she may even ask you to help which leads to more quality time together. As an extra bonus, give her a gift certificate for framing the finished product.

Mom Gym (1)

A gym membership. We want Mom around for a long time so making sure she gets her exercise and stays healthy is a great way to assure you will have plenty more Mother’s Days ahead of you. A gym membership doesn’t have to be expensive. You can get one for as low as $10 per month. If you have a local rec. center, check with them too as they generally have great prices and lots of different activities to keep things interesting.

Pottery and wine

A day to be artsy. These days you can find all kinds of places that offer different options to show your creative side. From painting old barn boards to creating a piece of pottery, your town likely has more than one option. And did you know that most of these places serve wine?

These are just 7 ideas to get your wheels turning. Of course, the best gift you can give your Mom is your time, and that doesn’t cost a thing. If you were to ask her what she wants she’ll likely say, “the only thing I want is to spend time with you.” Mother’s Day should be every day for the woman that brought you into this world. Make each day special even if you just send a text telling her you love her.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms from The Pajama Company!

Our Favorite Holiday is coming! National Wear your Pajama’s to Work Day!

Nowadays wearing your pajamas to work can be an everyday occurrence for those that still have the luxury of working remotely. For those whose employers require their presence back in the office or workplace, there’s one day out of the year where you can flashback to the good old days (a couple of years ago) where you can once again work in your pajamas. This year, on Tuesday, April 19th, go back in time to when working in your most comfortable clothes is once again allowed.

banner harley2

And since our favorite thing here at The Pajama Company is – well – pajamas, we’re experts at making sure you get the most of the best national holiday ever!

To begin with, consider where you work. You are no longer in your home office or at your dining room table. Coworkers and customers will be present so make your pajama-style decision based on who you will be with and what’s acceptable. If your workplace leans to the laid-back side, you can probably be a little more casual with your choice. Otherwise think conservative. You should also think about the weather. After all, in many parts of the country it can still be pretty cold in mid-April so dress accordingly.

banner haley

A fun way to make sure that you stay warm on a cooler day is to use an accessory like a bathrobe as a coat as opposed to your normal jacket. We do suggest wearing regular shoes from home to work and or course, sneakers are a great look with pj’s. If  you’re going all-in bring your slippers along to change into when you get there. Wear Your Pajamas To Work Day is especially fun for teachers and students!

SM Illustration pajamaday

Another thing to consider is that you may end up realizing you have to make a stop or two before or after work, and wearing your pajamas to these locations may not be acceptable. Bring a change of clothes just in case. We never know what might pop up over the course of the day and having them with you could be a real time-saver.

So what about hair and make-up? Well, if you are comfortable with people seeing you as they would if they came over to your house, then by all means, tone it down for the day. Maybe just spruce up a little bit as opposed to the bedhead you might have donned when you worked from home and simply crawled out of bed to your computer with your morning cup of coffee.

Here at The Pajama Company, we have always promoted that we often do our best work in pajamas. We imagine that many who worked at home during the pandemic would agree and perhaps find going back to the office distracting. People working in creative fields often work best in solitude and comfort. We also embrace the individuality of your perfect pajama style. Perhaps it’s a flannel pant with a cashmere sweater, perhaps it’s a lounge pant with a great sweatshirt or a classic pajama set with a print that you love.

me nypostpic

Lastly, make a fun day of it. You don’t want to be the only one walking around in your plaid flannels while the rest of the company is wearing their daily street clothes, so be sure to let everyone know ahead of time that you will be embracing Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day!

banner evelyn

That’s it! All you need now is the perfect pair of PJs and you’re ready to celebrate the happiest day of the year!

Hello Spring! It’s time to come out of hibernation.

There’s just something about spring that lifts our spirits as we say goodbye to gray winter days and hello to blooms, blossoms, and all things green. With longer days, warmer weather, and increased activity all around, our moods naturally improve and we look forward to what’s ahead.

While Mother Nature is doing her thing outside, it’s the perfect time for us to get a jump-start on the season and think about how we can also refresh. Here are some things you can do now to spring into spring.

Spring cleaning. On warmer days, open your windows and air out the house to get rid of that winter stuffiness. And once you have that old air out it’s time for a deep clean including behind the furniture and into all those cracks and crevices. It’s a lot of work but the outcome will give you that satisfying feeling of freshness and renewal.

Refresh yourself. Winter can be harsh on our skin and hair so consider getting a facial and a deep conditioning hair treatment. Spring is also the perfect time to try a new hairstyle. If all these things aren’t in your budget, give yourself a spa day at home. There are plenty of products you can purchase for much lower prices than what professionals charge that will give you close to the same results.

thecats Millie_Pima_Knit_Capri.White.01_900x1200_crop_center

Switch out your wardrobe. Put away those bulky sweaters, winter coats, hats, scarves, and mittens. It’s time to get out the fun florals and lightweight clothing and it’s always nice to add a few new items to your wardrobe. And don’t forget you need new spring pajamas too!

Car Detail

Get your car detailed. All the salt, sand, dirt, and other icky things that come with winter have taken up residence inside your car. Find a local business that does detailing on vehicles and give your car a little love. There’s nothing better than getting into a freshly detailed vehicle.

Don’t forget the pets. Your furry friend had a long winter as well and they would love a little pampering. A bath and a haircut (for long-haired animals) give them that spring in their step and they will be oh so thankful as the warm weather comes around.

Butterfly

Clean up outside. Your yard is likely full of things that weren’t there in the fall. Get the whole family together and make a game of cleaning it up. Try contests like whoever fills a bucket 1st, picks up the most sticks, or spots the 1st butterfly wins a prize. If you make yard clean-up fun, it will get done a lot faster.

Spring Walk

Take walks. When the weather is crummy we tend to just stay indoors and hide. With warmer days here, you have no excuses. Get out and walk. Enjoy the sun on your face, the fresh air in your lungs, and take in the transformations going on around you.

lawnmower

Prep outdoor needs. This is the best time to get a tune-up on your lawnmower, make sure your batteries are charged, the patio furniture is clean, and your barbecue grill is ready to go. It won’t be long till the weather is consistently beautiful so prepare in advance and you won’t be rushing around when you want to enjoy your backyard.

Plan Summer

Think ahead to summer. Even though we’re barely into spring, summer will be here before you know it so think about planning your vacations, kid’s activities, and other details for when school gets out now.
Do you have a routine that you follow when spring arrives? Share it with us below or tell our community on our Facebook page!

Observe National Napping Day and begin a new routine

Every year national napping day is observed on the Sunday that we Spring forward which this year is March 13th. Not only does this day encourage you to nap so that the time change doesn’t affect you too much, it also reminds us that napping is a critical part of keeping our bodies and our minds where they need to be. We have internal clocks that get set on a routine so something as minimal as an hour difference can cause chaos all around. This is especially true for animals and children.
Much needed rest makes you feel good, improves your mood, and gives you energy. After napping you will notice you just feel better and this is backed by numerous studies that show a short nap is extremely effective for midday fatigue. You’ll be more alert, productive, and happy.
So how do you get the most out of a nap? Here are some ideas and tips that will turn you into a napping expert.

1pm

Nap early enough in the day. Because you don’t want to interrupt your natural sleep cycle, getting your nap in early enough in the day will keep you on track. Researchers note that between 1-3pm is the ideal time to catch a few Zzzzz’s.

Dark Room

Have a good napping environment. To get the most out of a nap you have to have the right place to do it. A dark room where there is a minimum amount of noise is ideal. The whole point of the nap is to actually get some rest, so if you have a lot going on around you, trying to get some rest on the couch may not work out very well.

30 Minutes

Keep your nap short.  Studies have shown that a 20-30 minute nap is the sweet spot to get that reboot. If you sleep too long you are more likely to feel tired when you wake up.

Be comfortable. If you can, change into your pajamas or comfy clothes before you lay your head down. If you are tight or uncomfortable clothing can inhibit your ability to nap properly. Make comfort a priority.
Family Nap

Get the whole family in on it. If possible get the whole family to nap at the same time. It creates a quiet environment, gets everyone some much needed rest, and makes for a happier bunch for the rest of the day.

Latte

Try a caffeine nap. Caffeine takes about 20 minutes to do its thing and that’s almost exactly the amount of time that is recommended for afternoon naps. If you drink your coffee or latte before laying down for your nap, it should kick in right about the time you’re waking up to take on the 2nd half of the day.
Meditate

Clear your head. For most people, the biggest problem with napping is that you’re thinking too much. If you have a lot on your mind, try putting those things aside if even for a short time while you nap. You’re basically giving your brain a break and relieving stress.

Routine (1)

Practice, practice, practice. Many people just can’t get into nap mode. When you finally realize how important it is to work this critical rest in, you’ll understand the benefits. Just like you train yourself to go to the gym or manage a daily routine, you can do the same thing by getting your brain and body into a habit.

Bedtime

Maintain a normal night sleep routine. Just because you’re napping in the afternoon, don’t think that you can get less sleep at night. 8 hours per night is the recommended time for adults and having a schedule for going to bed and waking up keeps you on track. Look at the afternoon nap as a charge your body needs to be at its best.

Napping is a bit of an art but once you get it down you’ll be ever so thankful that you did. Your body, mind, and loved ones will thank you!

Remember to Relax – 7 tried and true ways to clear your mind

As things begin to return to what we know as normal life, the hustle and bustle of our everyday routines have worked their way back into our schedules. Coming off almost 2 years of ‘not as busy as usual’ may seem a little different right now but it won’t be long until busy-busy is just old hat again.

As your life returns to its pre-pandemic ways, you will need to remember that you still need “you” time to relax. You don’t want to forget this important part of maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul. Here are 7 simple ideas that don’t cost anything that you can incorporate into everyday life to make sure you get in that critical relaxation time you need.

Nap (1)

Nap. Sleep is an essential part of rebooting your entire system. A short nap in your favorite pajamas can do wonders for your state of mind and is second-to-none when it comes to the ultimate relaxation technique.

aromatherapy

Use aromatherapy. Lavender, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Ylang-Ylang, and lemongrass are all very popular aromatherapy scents used to enhance your relaxation techniques. These scents activate certain sensory triggers that put you at ease and make your mind relax.

Bath (1)

Take a bath. There is nothing better than a good soak in the tub to wash away the day’s commotion. Add relaxing essential oils to your bath water and turn on some soft music to really enhance your soak. Even 30 minutes of you-time in the soothing water can make all the difference in the world.

Book (1)

Read a book. Want to get away from it all for a little while? Put your nose in a good book and put your mind somewhere else.

Meditate

Meditate. You may already incorporate meditation into your daily routine, and if so you know how well it works. If meditation is new to you, we recommend doing some research online and picking the technique that best fits your needs. It’s an incredible way to relax and it amazing way to calm your mind.

Pet

Spend time with a pet. Studies show that spending time with a pet is one of the most relaxing things you can do. It’s also a win-win because you are getting quality relaxation time and your pet is getting some extra love from their favorite human!

Tea

Have a hot beverage. Even 15 minutes alone with a cup of warm herbal tea is better than nothing at all. If you want to try something a little different, add some raw honey to hot water with a slice of lemon and drink it just like that. This concoction is relaxing, has amazing immunity benefits, and taste delicious

You may have your own way of relaxing but we encourage you to mix it up a bit and try different things. When you look forward to something, you’re more likely to actually do it.

10 Things to do on Sunday if you don’t like Football

The big game happens this Sunday and millions of people plan to huddle around their TVs to watch the team from Cincinnati play the team from Los Angeles for the championship. There will be food, cocktails, and lots of yelling and screaming at homes and bars all over the country. There will also be some pretty memorable commercials that are sure to be a topic of discussion for days to come. But what if you’re not a football fan?
If you’re not interested in watching the big game it doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. We’ve got some ideas on how you can spend your time during the big game while everyone else is getting in their final football fix for the year.

Empty Store

Go shopping. If you don’t like crowds, this Sunday is the perfect day to go do some shopping. The stores will be all but empty and you will have the place almost to yourself. This allows you to browse and spend quality time doing some retail therapy.

Dinner 2

Go out for your Valentine’s dinner. The rest of the weekend, and Monday, will probably be pretty crowded for restaurants. But normally fancy restaurants are not crowded like sports bars for the big game so you can have an intimate, romantic, and crowd-free dinner while spending quality time with your sweetie.

lazyone greymooseflapmodels

Have a pajama party. If you have other friends and family members that are like-minded and couldn’t care less about the big game, why not invite them over for your own celebration? Have a movie night where everyone wears their pajamas, snacks on great food, and enjoys the evening catching up and having fun.

Gym

Hit the gym. Another place that’s probably not going to be very crowded for the big game is your local gym. Get an extra long workout in without having to worry about waiting for machines.

Book

Finish a book. You know that book that’s been sitting there that you’ve been meaning to finish? This is the perfect opportunity to do that.

File Taxes

File your taxes. Or if you’re not filing them right away, you can get everything ready so when April 18th rolls around you’re organized and ready to go.

puppy

Watch the puppy bowl. OK so this is kind of football, but it’s with puppies! Who can resist the furry faces of those adorable pups trying to cross the goal line? Since it’s before the big game, you can watch it AND then get something else in as well.

Ride Bike

Spend some time outside. If the weather is good where you live, take a walk or a bike ride and enjoy the great outdoors. The exercise, fresh air, and vitamin D will give you a beneficial health boost that most of us need this time of year.

Game food

Cook game food. You can’t turn on your computer or the TV without finding some amazing recipe recommendations for Sunday entertaining but just because you’re not watching, doesn’t mean you can’t eat. Try some of these delicious recipes and share them with other people who also won’t be watching.

Sleep

Catch up on your sleep. There’s no better time to put on your cozy pajamas, climb in bed and get some extra hours of shut-eye. While the rest of the country is eating and drinking themselves silly you’ll be doing something healthy by giving your body some rest.

There are plenty of other things you can do besides watch football this Sunday, but we hope these ideas get you off on the right foot. When Monday morning rolls around, while everybody else is trying to function after a long night, you’ll be fresh as a daisy and ready to tackle the week!

Snuggle up and relax with a cup of tea

Looking out the window you know it is just too cold to go anywhere. It’s one of those perfect days to stay in, put on your favorite pair of pajamas, binge-watch a TV show, and simply relax. Add to that some hot tea and you’ve got a perfect snuggle-up day.

Tea is delicious, warms up your insides, comes in so many varieties, and even has health benefits. Let’s take a look at some of our favorites and all the great reasons to try them.

rose hip

Rose Hip.  Produced from the fruit of the rose, not only is Rose Hip tea very tasty, but it’s extremely rich in vitamin C.  it is also said that rosehips can help with anti-aging and they can reduce inflammation in people with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Chamomile

Chamomile. This tea is best known for its ability to calm the mind and help you sleep, but some say that drinking chamomile tea also has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and liver-protecting effects. It may also ease symptoms of PMS say some herbalists.

peppermint

Peppermint. One of the most common herbal teas in the world, people use peppermint tea for things like digestive tract health, antioxidant qualities, and antiviral benefits. It’s the go-to remedy in some cultures to relieve indigestion, nausea and stomach pain.

Green tea

Green. Another very popular variety is green tea which is loaded with antioxidants that have many health benefits, including fat burning, lessening the risk of heart disease, improving brain function, and even protection against some cancers. The best part is you can buy green tea in both caffeinated and decaffeinated versions depending on what you prefer.

Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus. With its tart (think cranberries) flavor Hibiscus tea has tons of healthy benefits. It’s chock full of antioxidants, may lower blood pressure, promotes a healthy liver, and fights bacteria. It’s absolutely delicious both hot and cold so you can enjoy it year-round.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass. This tea is known for helping the body rid itself of cholesterol, toxins, fats, and uric acid, which in turn lowers blood pressure. It also contains lots of potassium, is filled with antioxidants, and helps detoxify your body, slowing down the aging process. A rich source of vitamins A and C, lemongrass is fantastic for the health of your skin and hair.

Dandelion Tea
