Life’s a Beach!

by Becky Boyd, The Pajama Company Editor

The beach means various things to different people – whether you’re a surfer, a boater, or a beach bunny.  To me, its all about sun, relaxation, and the soothing power of the ocean. A nap on the beach is the ultimate relaxation. Since I was a little kid, I’ve always loved floating in the salt water, body surfing the waves, finding unusual shells and rocks, or just sitting and reading a book.  A little slice of heaven!

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and in celebration of the start of beach season, we’re featuring some of our cute, cozy, beachy pjs!

We’re offering free UPS Ground Shipping (US only) now through Monday, May 26th!  To take advantage, use Use code SUNSHINE at checkout.

Our eco-friendly bSoft collection’s “Underwater Starfish” pajama set…

Lazy One’s “Lobster” pajama pant is great for guys and girls alike!

My personal favorite, our adorable “Calypso” poplin pjs…

Meet the New Pajama Company Intern: Steffi Badanes

By Steffi Badanes, Social Media Intern

Editor’s Note: Steffi Badanes is our newest Pajama Company intern. You will see her around this blog, Facebook, Twitter, Polyvore, Tumblr, Instagram, and Pinterest. As always, we asked Steffi to introduce herself to you by answering some very important Pajama Company questions.

1. Describe your favorite pajamas.

They’re a pair of blue and green argyle pajama pants that say “nerds rule” on the butt! I love David & Goliath. They always make the cutest PJs!

2. What would your perfect day look like?

I love spring/summer weather, so it would have to be at least 75 degrees out. I love wearing shorts and tank tops, so hitting the town in a cute outfit with some close buds is perfect!

3. What was the last book you read?

I’m a college student. The last book I read was a memoir about eating disorders for my writing class called Wasted by Marya Hornacher. It was tough to read at points but a really honest look at the human mind of someone with an eating disorder.

4. What song is currently stuck in your head

Love Today by Mika. It’s just such a happy and positive tune!

5. What youtube video are you watching over and over?

Space Oddity: A music video in space by Commander Chris Hadfield! I’ve always wondered what astronauts do for fun while they’re hanging out in space.

6. Winter or Summer?

Summer. Without question. I love expressing myself through my clothes. You have to cover up your cute outfits with giant puffy coats in the winter!

7. Stripes or plaid?

I’m such a stripes girl. I wear some form of stripes everyday. I own five different black and white striped shirts!

London Calling: Olympic Game Festivities

By Makenzie Lynch, The Pajama Company summer intern

In honor of “Olympic Day” on June 23, we decided that a London-dedicated post was more than appropriate. Whether you are interested in the rich history of the royals, the elegance of the British accent, the fashion, or even the rock and roll, there is something very alluring about Great Britain.

Although the American fascination with Great Britain is far from a new phenomenon, there is no denying that our friends across the pond have been in the spotlight more than ever this past year. Between Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton, which drew 22.8 million viewers from the U.S alone, to the spectacle surrounding the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Britain has everyone talking. Nothing though, has generated more chatter than the 2012 London Olympic Games.

This summer, the London Olympics will give everyone a chance to enjoy their favorite British customs while patriotically rooting for the top U.S athletes. We’re already getting excited about the festivities here at The Pajama Company. We believe there is no better way to get in the Olympic spirit than to literally sleep, eat, and breath London cheer.

Our fun and super-soft “Brit Flag” pillowcases from Snooze City (pictured above) are sure to cover the “sleep” aspect of your celebration in a truly cheeky British fashion. As for the “breathing and eating,” we have a few suggestions for that too…

1.) Host a tea party to watch the games! Complete with cucumber sandwiches and miniature delicacies, this idea works for either young girls or ladies luncheon. For a Pajama Company twist, take your party past “high tea time,” throw in some pajamas, and turn it into a slumber party.

2.) Host your own Olympic games! Add some competition to your standard backyard barbeque and choose your own prizes.

3.) Change up your usual workout for some Olympic-style exercises. Play some tennis with a friend, shoot hoops with your kids, or time yourself swimming laps in the pool. These new activities are sure to recharge any monotonous workout routine.

4.) Check out what is happening around the Olympics in your neighborhood at the official Olympic website. https://olympics.com/ioc/olympic-day

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic games starts July 27. Enjoy the festivities!

Get Your Body Beach-Ready in Pajamas

By Makenzie Lynch, The Pajama Company Summer Intern

With all the talk about Father’s Day this weekend, we are reminded that summer is fast approaching. The remainder of June, July and August are sure to bring the heat. That means BBQ’s, beach vacations and, of course, bathing suits. It is around this time when many people are desperate to get in shape. But sometimes on those rainy days or weekend mornings, going straight to the gym can seem like the last thing you want to do.

Thankfully, there are many exercises that you can do in your pajamas. You can enjoy your free time nestled on the couch with a good book one day, and reading pool-side the next. One personal trainer shows viewers a few quick steps to staying fit in the comfort of your loungewear.

No need to change into exercise clothes like the trainer in the video. Simply pair this workout with a light-weight cotton pajama, like these summery apricot pants from PJ Salvage and you’re good to go.

Find Your “Happy Place” This Summer and Go There

Here at The Pajama Company, we love to lounge and think summer is the perfect season to kick back and relax.  Not sure how to start this adventure of  “Chilln’?”  Begin by finding your perfect  “Happy Place.”  Find it and  and go back to it often.  Maybe it is plopped under your favorite tree, in your garden, on your deck or porch, poolside  or just in a quiet corner of your home.  Whether you have all day or just 20 minutes to spare, use the time doing what you love.  Settle in with your journal and add one more page, daydream, meditate, snooze, write a blog post, read the next chapter of the book you started months ago or simply sit.

For some, taking time to relax is daunting.  For some, life is such a whirl that stepping away even for a moment is stress inducing.  Funny how it’s possible for lounging to be stressful.  For some, it truly is.   For the type A, overstressed we say start the process of relaxing a little slower.  Start by coming home and just doing a quick change from work clothes to pj’s or boxers.  Something so simple can work very well to melt away a few tense muscles. It’s you saying, “I’m home.”  You’ve officially left the office, the playground, the sports field, the “Mom” taxi.  You may still have tons to do but putting on pj’s means you are home.  Many tell us that they do their best work in pajamas and we believe it.

We love to talk about lounging and love lounging in pj’s.  We know grabbing a little quiet time is so healthy and rejuvenating.  Find your “Happy Place” and go there, even for just a moment.  You will thank yourself.

Summer is the time to smile a little more, laugh a little more and simply do what you love a little more.
