7 Father's Day Activities for the Whole Family

7 Father’s Day Activities for the ‘Fun Dad’

This Father’s Day, we’re celebrating Fun Dads! There are dads and then there are fun dads. Fun dads have an extra cheesy dad joke for every situation. They make matching family T-shirts, show off their dance moves when they chaperone prom, and get overly competitive on game night (especially during high-stakes Candyland). There’s no rope swing too high, no rollercoaster too fast, and no such thing as too much ice cream for these “big kids.”

Show the ‘fun dad’ in your life how much you appreciate his willingness to go the extra mile to bring a smile to his kid’s faces. On Father’s Day, tackle these activities with same childlike enthusiasm that he would.

Fun Father’s Day Activities for the Whole Family

1. Cornhole Tournament

For the competitive dad who likes to spend time outside, spice up your father’s day BBQ with a cornhole tournament. A cornhole set makes a great gift for the dad who likes to host friends and neighbors while he grills. Invite other dads in the neighborhood over to celebrate. If cornhole isn’t his jam, consider other classic lawn games like ladder toss, horseshoes, or croquet.

2. Roller Rink

Give him the gift he really wants: the chance to embarrass his kids in public. Take dad back to middle school and plan a family trip to a roller rink. Cheesy pop music, bright lights, and a disco ball are all a ‘fun dad’ needs to get his roller-groove on!

3. The World’s Largest…

Is dad the one who can’t go on a road trip without stopping at every advertised attraction? Whether it’s a national historic site or the largest ball of yarn, indulge his childlike curiosity by finding your nearest, weirdest, wildest roadside attraction and take the family on a mini road trip. Get dinner in the town or city you’re visiting and toast his adventurous side!

4. ‘Dad Movie’ Marathon

What’s his poison? Spaghetti westerns? 80’s classics? Die Hard? Cheesy horror movies? Show your love for dad by enduring three of his absolute “worst” favorites. In addition to popping popcorn, have a selection of classic movie theater snacks on hand like Milk Duds, Raisinettes, and Dots. If you want to really knock his socks off, present the family with matching pajamas so you can lounge in style!

5. Trampoline Park

For the families with little ones, trampoline parks are guaranteed to tire them out! Trampoline parks are large indoor spaces covered in wall-to-wall trampolines. Many have separate areas for adults and older kids and little ones. Take the family for a day of jumping around. You’ll be surprised by how much fun you have!

6. Arcade

For the fun dad who is a gamer at heart, visit an arcade on Father’s Day. He’ll love getting competitive with his favorite little buddies. There are plenty of ‘Chuck-E-Cheese’ alternatives these days. For example, Dave and Buster’s is a chain restaurant and sports bar with a ‘Friday’s’ feel that also has arcade games. This way mom and dad can take a break from gaming and enjoy a drink while the kids keep themselves amused!

7. Outside-the-Box Mini Golf

Did you know that mini golf isn’t mini golf anymore? While the classic shoot-a-golfball-through-the-windmill is a blast, now there are a lot of variations on the family favorite. You can play indoor glow-golf, virtual golf, or go to a new kind of driving range called ‘Topgolf’ where you can rent a bay by the hour and enjoy cocktails, food, and games.

At the end of an exciting day of celebrating and family fun, dad’s going to want to relax. Surprise him with a new robe or a comfy pajama set before he settles in for the night. For more gift ideas or inspiration for family activities, visit us at thepajamacompany.com/blog.

Valentine's Day Date Ideas

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Dates That Don’t Require a Reservation

Oh no! Valentine’s Day is when?! If you’re one of the many who annually forget this holiday, you’re not alone. After all, Valentine’s Day is placed — diabolically — right after the rush of the major holiday season and just after Super Bowl madness. For most people, making a dinner reservation is a struggle within a week of the big date. Don’t panic. We developed a list of reservation-free Valentine’s Day dates that have a little more personality than a prix fixe menu at a crowded restaurant.

What do I get my man on Valentine's Day?

Mission Impossible-to-Buy-For: Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Him

We’re just going to come out and say it: what the heck are you supposed to get your man on Valentine’s Day? While a passion for chocolate knows no gender, quite often the tasty treats men and women pine for are very different. So where can we get a heart-shaped box of Buffalo chicken wings?

When it comes to gift-giving, it’s the thought that counts and you do want to make him feel special — even if you know he secretly believes it’s a ‘Hallmark holiday.’ On this day fellas are often tasked with dinner reservations, plans, flowers, candlelight, romance… that’s a lot of pressure! Despite being the gender that is most inclined to stick with lifelong routines and habits, research has proven that men actually enjoy surprises more than women do.

Surprise your ‘creature of habit’ with one of these comfortable personalized gifts to remind him that you’re paying attention.

5 Personalized Valentine’s Day Gifts for Him

1. The Finer Things

For the man who has it all, you can’t go wrong with a tasteful pajama set. Pair the PJs with a fantastic bottle of whiskey and chocolate that compliments the spirit. For dark chocolate, opt for Red Breast Single Pot 12 Year (or Jameson, if he’s a superfan). For milk chocolate with nuts, George Dickel Superior #12 Whiskey is a truly great bottle for the price.

2. Sports Fan

The Super Bowl is just around the corner. Show your support with a sports fan gift basket: branded beer koozies, his favorite brew, a plethora of game day snacks, and an extra comfortable pair of pajama pants to enjoy the game in. You could also consider a gift card to his for his favorite gameday takeout so he can get those Buffalo chicken wings… The heart-shaped box is totally optional.

3. The Pretty Boy

For the man who loves to preen, you can’t go wrong with a soft, plush bathrobe and high-end grooming supplies. Sandalwood-scented luxe shaving cream, new high-end razors, an exfoliating body wash, moisturizer, and a great pomade will do the trick. Show him some extra love by not banging on the door when he’s in the bathroom all morning, trying his new products!

To complete the package, add warm slippers, tea, and biscotti.

4. The Bookworm

Some fellas prefer a quiet evening with a good book. If you’re not sure what he likes, type a few titles from his bookshelf into Goodreads.com and the site will generate suggestions based on other users with similar tastes. To complete the package, add warm, cozy slippers, quality tea or coffee, and a box of delicious chocolate-dipped biscotti.

5. The Romantic

If your guy is a cheeseball, he’ll appreciate you going above-and-beyond for your special day. A pair of matching pajamas is sure to bring a smile to his face. Cook up a romantic feast or plan a quick, local weekend getaway by booking a cozy Airbnb in the countryside. Make it extra special by finding an affordable rental for a classic car on a site like Turo.

In truth, he’ll appreciate anything you do to show him that you care. While we don’t have to wait for a holiday to show our partners that we love them, it is nice to have an annual reminder that gives us the chance to reflect on how lucky we are. What To Get The Dad Who Has Everything?

The same question plagues me most years around this time. What can I get my dad that will show him how much I appreciate him? Of course, there’s always the standard tie or cufflink. But after decades of birthdays and father’s days, he has plenty of those. This year, I have a new idea: themed gifts. Combining a unique gift that he will use with an experience he will love will make this Father’s Day extra special.

Lucky for you, I am going to share a few of my ideas.

  1. The Sunday Morning Special — Give dad a pair of these beautiful and classic Bedhead Men’s Pewter Stripe Fine Cotton Pajamas (you know he’ll love them, but would never buy them for himself) along with a subscription to his favorite magazine or newspaper (e-reader subscriptions are great too if your dad is a kindle or iPad user). He’ll be thanking you every Sunday all year long.
  2. Catch of the Day — Normally, the idea of getting up at sunrise makes you want to push deeper under your duvet. But you could do it once for dear old dad. Treat him to the pleasure of your company by planning a fishing trip for the two of you. Pair the experience with these cozy “Good Catch” Flannel Lounge Pants (they’re 30% off, too!) that he can wear and reminisce about your day out on the water.
  3. A little pampering — He might not admit it, but even dad can appreciate a little pampering now and then. Get him a gift certificate for a massage at a local spa and give him this cashmere-like chocolate brown robe so he can bring a little bit of that luxury home with him.
  4. Pizza Pizza — Sometimes, love is said best with food.Take him out to dinner at his favorite restaurant, or make him his favorite meal at home. And give him this “Sorry, I Was Thinking About Pizza!” shirt to let him know you really understand him.
  5. His Happy Hour — Celebrate your dad’s love of an old fashioned grill out with this fun “Happy Hour” mug and t-shirt from Life is good. Pair it with a membership to the barbecue sauce or beer of the month club to make this gift complete.
