In December, the warm smell of freshly baked cookies — rich vanilla and butter — is as iconic as the smell of balsam. Baking and decorating cookies with loved ones is a long-standing holiday tradition in many households, as is indulging in pure buttery bliss in matching family pajamas on Christmas Eve. Fill your home with the scent of holiday joy this year with one of these popular cookie recipes from 2017.
It feels like Labor Day was only yesterday and yet somehow we’ve managed to fast forward through Halloween, blast past Thanksgiving, and Christmas is just around the corner?! Begin the annual lies: “I’m going to get my Christmas shopping done early this year” and “I’ll have the gifts wrapped by the end of November…” Sound familiar?
These are the lies we tell ourselves until mid-December when we end up on an aimless 10-hour Saturday mall run, buying whatever wrapping paper is left at Rite Aid, and giving at least six people on our list Starbucks gift cards. Hey, we’ve all been there. That’s why we’ve decided to help you out with a new strategy: The ‘2-Stop Shop.’
One part Cyber Monday and one part last-minute drugstore run, this strategy is designed to personalize the bejeezus out of your Cyber Monday haul for easy, thoughtful, personalized gifts for everyone on your list.
As the days get shorter and the colors of fall give way to frost, our lives become wrapped in tradition. It begins with Halloween: trick-or-treating, neighborhood Halloween parties, themed family costumes, or just stealing all the peanut butter cups out of your kid’s candy stash… no matter how big or how small, the shift from fall to winter signals a shift into a season filled with traditions and memories that will last a lifetime.
There are popular traditions that you share with others, such as the turkey you might be cutting into in the coming days, and then there are ones that are unique to you and your family. Young families have the special and unique opportunity to start traditions with their families and choose what their children will remember from their childhood about this special season — and might pass on to their own.
Here are a few ideas for new traditions you might like to start with your family this holiday season.
What’s more fun than finding festive holiday pajamas under the tree? Here are some of our favorites, just to make your gift giving easier…

At some point or another, each of us has been at one end of a gift closet. You might have one, or you might have received a last-minute gift from someone delivered straight from the gift drawer, but we all have experience with the trinket-filled, all-pleasing gift closet.
Gift closets are for seemingly everyone. They ensure that if you don’t have time to get a present, or can’t think of anything spectacular, you can still show others that they’re appreciated. However, the gifts in a gift drawer have to be all encompassing. Because you don’t know who they’ll be for when you buy them, you have to make sure anyone could like them. They must be universal.
Now, here’s an obvious answer to the question of “What is universal enough to please everyone?” Sleep of course! We all do it. Babies, parents, grandparents, everyone! Additionally, I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love sleep.
Filling your gift drawers and closets can be hard, but The Pajama Company has some amazing, affordable gifts to stock up on for a rainy day.
Consider an eye mask for a boss or co-worker! Simple, but subtly showing you care.
Maybe a chocolate bar for your best friend if she’s having a rough day? The funny quotes on ours are sure to cheer up a pal. Plus, if you always have a couple in your gift closet, you’ll always be prepared for a bad day.
At The Pajama Company we believe Valentine’s Day is the time to celebrate everyone you love, whether that’s a spouse, partner, friend or relative. That’s why we are sharing our favorite family tradition, the Valentine’s Day Grab Bag. It’s a Valentine’s Day gift and a game.
Here’s how it works.
Step 1: Choose one of our three options of Be My Valentine Grab Bag: $50, $75 or $100.
Step 2: Gather a group of family or friends on February 14.
Step 3: The youngest person in the group reaches into the grab bag and pulls out a gift. Eyes closed!
Step 4: That person who pulled out the gift has to then decide who in the group is most suited for that gift and then give it to that person. (For example, Susie pulls out a chocolate bar and decides that since Aunt Betty is a total chocoholic that she will give the bar to Betty.)
Step 5: The next youngest person in the group takes the next turn and repeats step 3 and 4. Continue until all people have a turn or until all the gifts are handed out.
Footed pajamas are often thought of as night wear for small kids, but both teens and adults are now wearing footies again! Many older people like footie pajamas because they bring back memories of the fun they had in their childhood. Historians disagree on the history of the footed pajama. Some say they were brought from Persia in the 1800s, while others claim India was the place of origin and that they were brought to the West in 1880. The word “pajama” itself according to linguists originates from an Indian word meaning “leg clothes.”Pajamas rapidly grew in popularity in Europe where they helped people stay warm during the cold winter nights. By 1898, footed pajamas were advertised for sale in London, and their popularity continued to grow from that point. So why are footie pajamas so warm? Well, the fact that the pajamas are one-piece helps prevent heat from escaping too far from the body. With non-footie pajamas there are a lot of “vents” that allow the warmth generated by the human body to dissipate. The footie traps this warmth and allows it to circulate throughout the inside of the pajama area including around the feet. Since the feet are often the first thing to get cold, the footie pajama was really a blessing in helping people get to sleep in cold climates. Even in the modern age with our centrally heated homes, we can still use footed pajamas to help keep the heating bill lower while still sleeping comfortably. In fact, saving electricity on heating also has the added benefit of reducing our impact on the environment.
