The Art of Slothin’ Around: How to (Successfully) Do Absolutely Nothing

As lovers of pajamas, one of our favorite holidays comes on October 20th. And although it’s technically International Sloth Day to celebrate the actual, literal tree-dwelling animal, here at The Pajama Company we have a theory: humans need this holiday way more than the sloths do. They already know how to live life slow.

Think about it. When was the last time you just… sat there? No multitasking. No scrolling while pretending to watch a show. Just straight-up, slow-moving, unapologetic relaxation.

That is exactly what pajamas were invented for.

So, in honor of our unofficial mascot, we are officially giving you permission to turn off your brain, slow your pace to a crawl, and live like a sloth today. To help you get into character, here is your official, step-by-step guide to doing less.

1. The “Mom, I’m Hungry” Pause

When the kids start calling your name for a snack, take a deep breath. Unless something is actively on fire or someone is bleeding, you do not need to spring out of your seat like a superhero. They can wait five minutes. Sit there for a few more beats, finish your sip of coffee, and move at a glacial pace to the kitchen. A little waiting builds character, right?

2. The Dryer Dilemma

Hear that annoying buzzer going off from the laundry room? Ignore it. Seriously, let it beep. The clothes are already dry, and guess what? They aren’t going anywhere. There is zero reason to rush over and fold a massive pile of hot laundry right now. Leave it in a heap. That is exactly what the “fluff” button is for later tonight.

3. The One-Trip Rule is Cancelled

You know how we usually try to carry twelve grocery bags, a backpack, and a water bottle all at once just to get it over with? Not today. If you absolutely must bring something from the car or another room, carry one single item. Walk slowly. Feel the floor beneath your feet. If it takes three separate trips over the course of four hours, so be it.

4. Master the Couch Pivot

Sloths spend their lives hanging from branches, and today, your couch is your branch. Find a comfortable spot, nestle into your pillows, and stay there. If you need the remote or a sip of water, do not stand up. Stretch your arm out as far as it can humanly go. Pivot your hips. Use your foot to drag the coffee table closer. Turning an easy task into a minor core workout is peak sloth behavior.

5. Let the Phone Ring (Or Just Text Back Tomorrow)

If your phone buzzes with a non-urgent question, you do not owe anyone an immediate response. You are off the clock. Read the text, think “huh, interesting,” and then put the phone face down. Answering a text three hours later—or even tomorrow morning—is completely acceptable when you are operating on sloth time.

6. The “Good Enough” Dinner Plan

Today is not the night for a home-cooked, three-course meal that requires chopping, sautéing, and a sink full of dishes. Dinner tonight should require the absolute bare minimum amount of movement. We are talking frozen pizza, cereal in a bowl, or ordering takeout straight from your phone without lifting your back off the cushions.

7. The Ultimate PJ Upgrade

You cannot properly live like a sloth if you are wearing stiff jeans, a tight waistband, or anything with a zipper. True relaxation requires the right uniform. Slip into your loosest, softest, most comfortable pajamas and just stay in them. If you end up wearing them for 24 hours straight? You can rest assured that you’ve made some sloth somewhere very proud!

October Is for Finishing Things

As much as we love Halloween, October isn’t just about candy bowls and scary movies. It’s also that sweet spot before the holiday chaos begins, making it the perfect time to finally finish a few things that have been lingering on your to do list.

September is all about getting back into routines, and once November arrives, the holiday rush takes over. That makes October the perfect month to wrap up those projects you’ve been meaning to finish before your calendar fills up and your to do list suddenly doubles in size.

Think about it. In just a few weeks, we’ll be planning holiday meals, shopping for gifts, decorating, attending parties, and trying to squeeze a dozen extra commitments into an already busy schedule. Why not use October to get a few lingering projects off your plate now?

That book sitting on your nightstand since June? Finish it. The half-completed craft project tucked away in a closet? Pull it back out. The room you’ve been meaning to organize, paint, or redecorate? This is your sign to finally tackle it.

One of the best things about fall is that it naturally encourages us to slow down a bit. The evenings get darker earlier, the temperatures cool off, and suddenly staying home sounds a lot more appealing than it did a few months ago. It’s finally time to pull out those flannel pajamas, grab a cozy blanket, and settle in for the kind of evenings that make fall everyone’s favorite season. Instead of scrolling through your phone for another hour, spend one or two evenings each week knocking out something you’ve been putting off.

Maybe it’s organizing family photos. Maybe it’s finishing a puzzle that’s been taking up half the dining room table. Maybe it’s finally cleaning out that overflowing closet before holiday guests start stopping by. Small accomplishments add up quickly, and there’s something incredibly satisfying about closing the loop on projects that have been hanging around for months.

The best part? You don’t need an entire weekend to make progress. Some of the most productive evenings happen when you’re curled up on the couch in your favorite pajamas with a cup of tea and a simple goal. Read a few chapters. Finish a sewing project. Sort through a stack of papers. Little by little, those unfinished tasks start disappearing.

October is also a great time to think ahead. If you know you’ll be hosting family for the holidays, tackle a few home projects now. If you’d like to make handmade gifts this year, get started before December sneaks up on you. Future you will be grateful when the holiday season arrives and those jobs are already crossed off the list.

By the time November rolls around, you’ll have fewer unfinished projects hanging over your head and more time to enjoy everything that makes the season special. That’s a pretty good trade off.

So put on your coziest pajamas, grab your favorite fall drink, and finish something this week. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be done.

Sometimes all it takes is crossing off one unfinished project to build momentum. Before you know it, you’ll be heading into the holidays with less stress and a lot more checked off your list.

Why We Need Quiet Time

Our lives and our world are full of noise and distractions. Sometimes so much so that we lose focus on what we need to get done. We also forget to take the time for some peace and quiet which is an important part of our overall well-being.

Many people view taking time for solitude and serenity as a luxury they simply cannot afford because let’s face it; if we aren’t doing anything then we’re getting nothing done. This mindset stops us from taking the time we need to grow, renew, and revive.

Look at it from a different perspective, when you take in the silence you allow yourself to engage in time for self-reflection and awareness. Everyone needs quiet time, but what does it entail and how will you benefit? We have some thoughts on that.

meditate-ga5d3a5547_640

  1. Renewal requires rest

It’s simply impossible to just go, go, go without resting. Everything requires repair and maintenance including the human body. The easy part is relaxing the body; it’s relaxing the mind that’s the hard part. Meditation is a great way to check-out for a bit, mute the noise in your head, and gain the peace you need.

checklist-g5a75ab73e_640

  1. Rediscover what’s important

When caught up in the whirlwind that is our daily routine, we forget or even ignore what really matters. When you have too many responsibilities or waste time on unnecessary tasks, you lose sight of the important things. You need quiet time to rediscover what you’ve neglected and to revisit priorities.

puzzle-g47ce743aa_640

  1. Make order from chaos.

When you’re knee-deep in a commotion of activity there is no time for prioritizing tasks. You’re too busy crossing things off the list. The best time to examine the reasons behind what you do in life is best found during quiet moments to yourself.

woman-g3016f4e2c_640

  1. Quiet time reinforces your meaning

The human mind needs time to put things into perspective. This can’t be done when you are doing 20 things at once or always chasing deadlines. You need peaceful silence to do that. Only then are you able to rejuvenate and reboot.

Nap

  1. Quiet time is a stress eliminator

You might not be able to completely escape stress, but you can certainly practice ways to mitigate it. One quick and simple way to reduce stress is to  regularly carve out 15-30 minutes of your day to sit quietly alone, meditate, read a book or listen to music, go for a peaceful walk, or put on your pajamas and take a quick nap. If you have even more time (such as a long lunch break) use it. But it’s not all about how long you’re quiet; it’s about making time for it in your life no matter the length of time. It’s the easiest way to nourish your mind and body so you can return to your routine with more energy and focus.

Healthy

  1. Heal and stay healthy with quiet time

Medical professionals use dark, quiet rooms for patient recovery from surgery and illness for good reason. Any form of healing, both medical and physical require complete rest and relaxation so that your body and mind to recuperate. Similarly, when you learn to wind down improve your chances of staving off future health problems and disease. A body under less stress has a higher immunity level.

Quite time may seem like an unreasonable goal but believe us, it’s totally attainable. Plan it, do it, and make no excuses for taking the time you need.

The Ultimate Closet Cleaning Guide

We’ve been spending a lot of time at home… a lot of time. Over the last year, you’ve likely learned a lot about the home you live in and you’ve probably done a lot of organizing as well. Cleaning out cabinets, storage closets, drawers, basements, and attics is somewhat of a national past-time these days. But… have you cleaned out your main wardrobe closet yet?

If you haven’t, you’re not alone. Did you know that the clothes closet is usually the very last place people organize when cleaning or de-cluttering their homes? Why is that? It’s because our clothes are the hardest things for us to let go of, and they hold a sentimental place in our hearts. Every shirt, dress, pair of pants, sweater, and jacket can be linked to an event in your life or memory. This year, before spring hits, vow to tackle your closet head-on. Clean it out, get rid of things, and make room for new beautiful items.

We’ve got some tips to make the process as painless as possible. So make a pot of coffee, put on your comfy pajamas, and let’s go!

Donation

Who gets what? To begin with, decide what’s going to happen with the things you’re going to get rid of. You may for instance have family or friends who need or want your hand-me-downs. There will also likely be things that you can donate to your local thrift shop, shelter, or charity. Keep them separate as you put them in bags or boxes.

Looking at clothes

Start at one side. It’s very easy to become distracted when you’re cleaning out your closet. Pick a starting point and follow the flow. Move through each section one by one. Whatever you encounter, don’t allow yourself to stray from the game plan or you’ll end up with a bigger mess than you know what to do with.

Thinking

Let go. As stated earlier, clothes have many sentimental memories and we all have those few items that we’ll keep forever, but you can’t keep everything. The rule of thumb is if you’ve gone two seasons and haven’t worn an article of clothing, chances are you will never wear it again. Get rid of it. It’s only taking up space and adding to your clutter.

Try on

Check the fit. Make sure to try things on. If you’re like many people, you’re holding on to a lot of clothes that don’t fit anymore. If something is too big, chances are you’ll never wear it again. If too small, and your plan is to lose weight so it will fit again, ask yourself if you’d actually wear it. If not, it’s much more fun to buy new clothes once you shed the weight.

jeans with pin

Look the clothes over. Many times people have clothes in the closet that have a tear, a button missing, or a broken zipper and the intention was to fix them. If you haven’t done it by now, you probably aren’t going to. Send them on to greener pastures.

80's

Think about your current style. Are you holding on to those stirrup pants from 1984 because you’re hoping they’re going to come back in style? Even if something like that were to become trendy again, chances are the look will be slightly different. Let go of the past.

Laundry

Clean everything. It’s just common courtesy to make sure that whatever you’re giving to someone or donating to charity is clean and smells fresh.

Cleaning Car

Recycle. Most people have t-shirts, sweatshirts, or other items that are too worn to donate or give away, but you don’t want them either. Don’t just throw them away immediately. Reuse them by turning them into rags for cleaning (old sweatshirts are great for cleaning your car) and once they have served their purpose, then you can toss them.

Car Boxes

Out of sight.  Once you are done, get those bags and boxes out of your house. We cannot stress this enough. Load them in the car and drive them to their new homes. If you keep them you’ll start thinking “well maybe I should keep that one sweater because…” and they will without a doubt start working their way out of the bags and back into the closet. You must relocate them at once.

And that’s it. Now you have a closet with lots of room to be refilled with cute, fresh new outfits. Go shopping and have fun. May we suggest you start with pajamas?

Finding Your Way To Better Sleep

A good night’s sleep is critical to your overall health. When you get the right amount of sleep at night it makes you more productive the next day, lowers stress levels, and improves your overall frame of mind. Your sleep quality can even affect your weight and the health of your skin.

Most people who have trouble either falling asleep or staying asleep know the basics of what to do and what not to do, such as drinking herbal tea, taking a warm bath, and avoiding technology right before bed. But, there are some other methods you can also try if the old stand-by isn’t working for you. If you are one of the millions of people that have trouble getting enough zzzz’s at night, give some of these lesser know techniques a shot.

Beary Happy

Pick the Right Pajamas: Proper sleepwear is critical to a good night’s sleep and a great pair of pajamas makes all the difference. If you aren’t comfortable, you’ll toss and turn all night disturbing your regular cycle. The way your pajamas fit is very important. If pajamas are too loose you might start to feel tangled up as you move around. If too tight, your PJ’s may feel binding and can cut off circulation. Another thing to consider is the fabric your sleepwear is constructed of. You don’t want to be too hot or cold and you want the fabric to feel good on your skin. Everyone has different tastes, but it just so happens that they make pajamas out of every type of material imaginable!

Tart Cherries (1)

Drink Tart Cherry Juice: Tart cherries (Known as Montmorency cherries) are naturally rich in melatonin, which is a hormone that regulates sleep. Drinking tart cherry juice before bed gives you just the right amount of melatonin to help you fall asleep and stay asleep while supplying your body with a ton of nutrients and antioxidants. Tart cherry juice is also thought to help reduce arthritis and gout symptoms, combat muscle soreness, and improve brain health. The juice can be purchased as a concentrate that you mix with water or ready to drink.

Magneisun

Take a Magnesium Supplement: Magnesium is one of the most common minerals on earth and is found in many of the foods we eat. Our bodies depend on it to function properly. Bone health, brain, heart, and muscle function are just some of the 600 cellular reactions throughout your body that magnesium intake controls. The supplements provide benefits such as fighting inflammation, relieving constipation, and lowering blood pressure, but did you know magnesium may help treat sleep problems? Magnesium regulates neurotransmitters that send signals to the nervous system and brain helping you to relax. It also regulates the melatonin your body naturally produces, which controls your sleep-wake cycle.

Lavender flowers

Lavender Aromatherapy: Lavender is thought to have originated in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and India and has been used to improve sleep for centuries. Our brains find the scent of Lavender soothing, which in turn slows brain wave activity allowing you to relax. The scent can be used in many different ways such as diffusers in your bedroom, lotions or pure essential oils directly applied to the skin, and you can even find laundry treatments that are lavender scented. It’s a must-have fragrance to help you get great shut-eye.

Calm Ocean Sounds

Relaxation App: Many times the inability to get a good night’s sleep comes from our brains working overtime. You know how it is. You go to bed and suddenly you start thinking about the day’s events, your upcoming schedule, or the stresses that come with everyday life. It can keep you up for hours! A great way to combat this is to download a relaxation app. Soothing ocean sounds, the soft patter of raindrops, or even the whirring of a fan transform your environment into a happy place where you can clear your mind and decompress.

Meditation

Meditation: Did you know that 1-in-6 adults meditate before bed?  Taking a few minutes to clear your mind before you go to bed can do wonders for your sleep cycle. When using a variety of mind and body techniques to promote relaxation, you release tension and ready your brain for sleep. Look for some videos and articles online to give you insight into different types of mediation practices and to find the right technique for you.

Throwing a Formal Family Pajama Dinner Party

Running out of ideas to keep your family entertained while we stay at home? We’ve got a great idea! Throw a dinner party – in pajamas!

Gone (for now anyway), are the days of eat-and-run, or the family fending for themselves at dinnertime. The great tradition of family mealtime is back in style. Families are bonding, learning more about one another, and communicating face-to-face.

Keeping things interesting however, may pose a bit of a challenge. Instead of just sitting down to supper, we suggest you mix it up a bit and create a full-blown event. Here are some ideas that you can use to pull together a formal family dinner in pajamas.

Invite

Plan it. To get started, just like any other party, you have to plan the event. Make invitations with date, time, and location (i.e.: cocktails in the living room at 6pm followed by dinner in the dining room at 7pm) and present them to the family members in your home. You could include RSVP cards that need to be returned by a certain day just to make it even more fun!Sushi-Banner home page

Dress code. Just because this is a formal pajama dinner party, does not mean that your guests can arrive wearing just any old PJs. Make sure they slip on their very best pair for the occasion. Gals can do their hair and makeup (yes, even the little ones can participate) while guys should shave- if needed, splash on a little cologne, and even style their hair. Add accessories like jewelry, ties, and top hats to really take it up a notch!

table-791149_640

Set the mood. Candlelight, a pretty table cloth, creative folded napkins, mood music, and fresh-cut flowers on the table are all perfect for setting the right ambiance. Make the family feel like they are going out to a fancy meal at a special place.

Cooking

Create the perfect menu. Think about everything from the cocktail (or kiddie cocktail) hour with appetizers, to the dinner itself. Try to make a meal that isn’t part of your normal routine but will appeal to everyone. If you have picky eaters, then ‘dress up’ their favorites to give the food a fancy feel. Don’t forget an extra special dessert!

Dancing family

Dancing anyone? What’s a formal dinner party without a little dancing afterward? The best way to do this is to have a variety of music that everyone can relate to. Get cheek to cheek for a song or two, and then kick it into high gear and shake your booty. After-dinner dancing will also burn off some of those extra calories you may have consumed.

Take a family picture. As things slowly return to normal, you’ll definitely want a lasting memory of your evening. Get everyone posed, set the timer and say cheeeeeese.

Although the majority of us eagerly await the return to normalcy, the silver lining that has come from all of this is that families have been able to reconnect. We hope that after this is over, families will continue to plan, and set aside time to partake in unique bonding activities. It’s the best way to build close-knit relationships that can be passed down to the next generation.

Stay well, healthy, and safe

How to Host a Virtual Happy Hour

Working at home all day definitely has its perks. We don’t have to deal with traffic, you don’t have to rush around in the morning, and best of all we can work in our pajamas (that’s our favorite part)!

You might, however, be feeling a bit isolated, and missing your co-workers and friends as we practice our social distancing. A virtual happy hour may be just what you need to give your day some structure and create a lifeline between you and your loved ones.

So how do you host a virtual happy hour? It’s really pretty simple and an upside is that it’s a lot less expensive than going to a restaurant or bar!

Pick your platform. You’re going to need a chat platform to host your event and which one you use will depend on your guests. Zoom is the most popular option because you can send invites to anyone and its super easy to use. The one drawback is that if you don’t have a paid version, the free version only allows for a 40-minute group session which probably isn’t enough time to get truly happy . Facebook, Skype, and Google Hangouts are fine alternatives as long as everyone is comfortable with the interface you pick.

Margaritia Virtual HH

Have a theme. Although it’s not a must for your virtual happy hour, a theme can make the event that much more fun. Try a margarita night, a whiskey tasting, wine with the gals, or a pajama party. Make sure to dress for the event too. Wine night… get dolled up (make-up and all) and put on some of ‘going out’ clothes just like you would if you were meeting somewhere. Pajama theme… get comfy and have fun!

background-957469_640 (1)

Make it a real party. Send out invites, share the theme and request RSVPs. We also love the idea of having a “happy hour for a cause” where at the end, instead of tipping a bartender, attendees can donate to your chosen charitable cause or nonprofit through Paypal or Facebook.

Manage your guest list. There are 2 things you want to consider when deciding who will attend your shindig. First, make sure the attendees are compatible especially if you have different circles of friends. Happy hour is all about the conversation so you don’t want someone feeling left out because they don’t mesh with other guests. You’ll also want to limit the number of people joining in. A nice size group is around 10 people. This way you won’t have people talking over one another and the conversation can flow naturally.

Happy Hour (1)

Choose the ambiance. If you’re going to virtually hang out with your friends, you want to be able to see and hear them and you want them to see and hear you. Make sure to pick a well-lit area to place your laptop or mobile device and chose a location where background noise (think barking dogs or children playing) won’t get in the way of your conversations.

Keep the conversation light. It will be very easy to get on the topic of Coronavirus but try not to let that happen. This is all about the fun and escaping from the daily grind. It’s likely been a while since everyone has seen each other so use this time to catch up on what’s happening with everyone. You can talk about new recipes you’ve tried, movies you’ve watched, or books you’ve read. It may help to tell everyone in advance that there are topics you’d like to avoid so you can fully embrace the time together with your besties.

Choose the next host. Before you all sign off, ask if anyone would like to organize the next get together. Having something to look forward to makes everything we are all going through just a little more bearable.

corona-5006277_960_720 (1)

You’re not alone if you can’t wait for life to get back to normal and hopefully it will sooner than later. In the meantime, a virtual gathering is the best way to stay connected. You don’t have to limit them to happy hour either. Try a morning coffee clutch, an afternoon brunch, a dinner party or even a movie night. We need each other and together we’ll get through this.

Fall is the perfect time to adopt the Hygge lifestyle

The hottest trend is here to stay! Hygge (Pronounced ‘hoo-ga’ ) is the Danish lifestyle of comfort,  and it’s our favorite obsession.

The rest of the world is taking notice including right here in the U.S., and we, of course, couldn’t be happier. After all, Hygge is right up our alley. What’s more comfortable than pajamas? If you love to snuggle up with a good book and a hot cup of tea on a rainy or snowy day, then believe it or not you’re actually experiencing Hygge and you don’t even know it.

Hygge, however, isn’t just about the right loungewear and perfect soothing beverage. It’s also about transforming your space into the ultimate cozy comfort zone and allowing yourself to fully adopt the entire concept. We’re here to help you learn ‘How to Hygge’.

candles

Candles: If you ask the Danes, they will tell you that candles are a must to create the Hygge environment you need. The flickering lights and the warm glow transform your home into the perfect backdrop for getting your Hygge on. If you have a fireplace, that’s even better!

 Blanket701

Blankets: Full relaxation mode cannot be attained without wrapping yourself in the warmest, most comfortable blanket you have. It transports you to that happy place which is what Hygge is all about. Add some plush pillows for an extra level of bliss.

Lounge Pant400

Comfort Clothes: The cozier the better is the name of the game when it comes to fully immersing yourself into Hygge time. Of course, we are partial to pajamas and loungewear  but almost anything goes as long as you are covered from head to toe in comfort. Leggings, cozy socks, bulky sweaters and yes – even those sweatpants you’ve had for 20 years fit the bill.

Culinary Indulgence: It IS okay to break your healthy eating rules once in a while and savor the good stuff. We recommend freshly baked goods, hot chocolate, hot soup, hearty stew, or anything else that puts you in your happy place. It’s just one day. Live it up.

What is not Hygge

Technology: Looking at your phone, tablet or computer is the biggest no-no in the world of Hygge. The point is to unplug, take in your surroundings, and relax. We MIGHT let TV slide if you promise to watch light, carefree programming. Otherwise, turn it all off, grab a good book and detach from the everyday grind.

Forcing It: 2 kids home with the flu, is probably not the right day to try and submerge yourself into relaxation mode. Save it for a time when all is right with the world and the stars align just right.

Making Rules: The whole concept of Hygge is that there are no rules. We all have special ways we disconnect from the busy lives we lead, so make your time your own. There is no one way to Hygge which is what makes it so great!

So now that you know how to partake, what are you waiting for? There is a reason that Denmark is always in the top 3 ‘happiest countries’ list.

Hygge doesn’t have to be a fall/winter practice either. You can embrace it all year long. Just adjust your activities according to the weather. In the summer, you can pull up a lawn chair or hammock and indulge the same way outdoors in the warm bask of the sun (just don’t forget the sunscreen). Like we said, there are no rules!

Do you have some great tips and advice when it comes to mastering the art of Hygge? We’d love to hear them. Share in the comments or on our Facebook page!

10 reasons to love rainy days

Why Rainy Weekends are Actually The Best

Science has proven over and over again that the weather has the power to affect our mood. Shorter days in the winter can make us feel depressed. Cloudy skies can make us feel tired and the sun makes us feel energized. That’s all well and good, but what’s wrong with a little rain? We actually think rainy days are kind of the best, especially during the weekend. Here’s why.

10 Reasons to Love Rainy Weekends

1. You don’t “have to” go outside.

The great outdoors are, well, great. But after a long, grinding week there’s nothing better than waking up to the pitter patter of rain against your window pane. A rainy day means you don’t have to “make the most” of the weather by getting outside. There’s no reason you have to dust off your bike, go for a jog, take the dog hiking, or meet your friends for a sunny afternoon brunch. You can be an indoor cat without regret.

2. You can catch up on that new series everyone is talking about.

“What do you mean you don’t watch…?” Instead of smiling and nodding when your coworkers dish about That New Show on That Streaming Service, actually participate in the conversation for once. Use your rainy day to pop some popcorn, curl up on the couch, and binge watch a hot new series.

3. It’s hot chocolate weather.

Just because the holidays are over, that doesn’t mean that you have to punish yourself with boring cups of coffee and tea on a rainy day. Make yourself a big mug of hot cocoa with all the trimmings: marshmallows and candy canes if you still have a few lying around the kitchen — they don’t expire, right? Wrap yourself up in a cozy bathrobe and sip while you listen to the gentle sounds of rain outside. Hot chocolate is the ultimate rainy day treat.

4. You can go to bed early.

Even people with the most active social lives need a break every now and again. You’ll notice that on a rainy Friday night, your cell phone will stay blissfully silent. Almost every social butterfly takes advantage of a rainy night to stay in and recharge. So ditch the FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), go to bed early, and wake up refreshed!

5. Pajamas for the win!

The number one, absolute bestthing about a rainy weekend is that you can stay in your pajama pants for 48 straight hours. Blustery wet weather makes us want to curl up under a warm blanket in our favorite flannels, so why not indulge? Put on your slippers and keep them on until Monday.

6. You can do that thing you said you’d do.

How are the New Year’s Resolutions going? Did you make a promise to yourself to get back into painting, read a book a month, try yoga? If you’re not into lazing about on a rainy day, use your gray weekend to get back on track. Read that book, find a yoga video on YouTube, or bust out your watercolors. Even if none of these items ended up on your list of resolutions, using this time indoors to exercise your mind will help you feel more energized when you go back to work on Monday.

7. Takeout tastes better when it’s raining.

It’s a fact: food always tastes better when you don’t have to cook it. Second fact: a comforting container of takeout always tastes better when it’s cold and rainy outside. Take a day off from grocery shopping and order the pizza, pad thai, buffalo wings, or tofu and broccoli you’ve been dreaming about. Then plant yourself on the couch and savor every last bite.

8. You can practice self-care.

In this age of unparalleled connectivity, we really do have to practice self-care. Putting our health and wellness first isn’t an instinct for most modern adults. We have to learn to set time aside to take care of our ourselves. Take a bath, paint your nails, or take a nap. A rainy weekend is the perfect time practice a little self-care.

9. You can do chores without doing much.

Do you know it’s going to rain this weekend? Park your car in the driveway, soap it up, and walk away. Or put your indoor plants outside for a natural watering. Check “water the lawn” off your to-do list. These tiny life hacks can help you feel semi-productive while you spend the rest of the day binge-watching shows on Netflix in your PJs.

10. You can host a pajama party.

If you don’t feel like going out but want to be social, invite a few friends over for a “pajama party.” Encourage them to wear their PJs or their favorite sweatpants, order pizza, open a bottle of wine, and watch a movie together. Nothing makes your home feel cozy on a rainy night like friends and jammies.
