Did you remember to set your clocks back an hour? I actually remembered this year, but it really doesn’t matter because today is one of my official pajama days! Yes, it is a laid back Sunday for my family. We are sitting in our living room in our pajamas and watching movies on Netflix.

 

We all have our own favorite type of pajama set. My oldest daughter loves snuggling with our pets and truly has a love for animals so her favorite pajama day gear is our Moose Caboose Pink Pajama Flapjack Pajamas  paired with Aroma Home’s Knitted “Cat” Slipper Socks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

My Middle daughter loves staying cozy in our “Bedtime Bears” Fleece Footie Pajamas. She snuggles up under a blanket with her favorite tea time friends and tells stories while staying snug as a cute little bug!

With move-in day just around the corner, we have a few ideas for college life. We know books, laptops, desk lamps, microwaves and toiletries are important but we think pajamas also rank as a dorm room “Essential.” Pajamas are truly the study uniform of choice on campus and we have some pretty perfect flannels to get the semester started. Paired with that new college sweatshirt or tee, our pj pants are ready to go the distance be it pulling that “all nighter” or lounging with dorm mates. This week we launched our “Matching Family Pajamas” category here at www.ThePajamaCompany.com We know there is something about winter and something about the holidays that makes it wonderful to just relax at home together in pajamas. Footed pajamas are often thought of as night wear for small kids, but both teens and adults are now wearing footies again!  Many older people like footie pajamas because they bring back memories of the fun they had in their childhood. Historians disagree on the history of the footed pajama. Some say they were brought from Persia in the 1800s, while others claim India was the place of origin and that they were brought to the West in 1880. The word “pajama” itself according to linguists originates from an Indian word meaning “leg clothes.”Pajamas rapidly grew in popularity in Europe where they helped people stay warm during the cold winter nights. By 1898, footed pajamas were advertised for sale in London, and their popularity continued to grow from that point.So why are footie pajamas so warm? Well, the fact that the pajamas are one-piece helps prevent heat from escaping too far from the body. With non-footie pajamas there are a lot of “vents” that allow the warmth generated by the human body to dissipate. The footie traps this warmth and allows it to circulate throughout the inside of the pajama area including around the feet. Since the feet are often the first thing to get cold, the footie pajama was really a blessing in helping people get to sleep in cold climates. Even in the modern age with our centrally heated homes, we can still use footed pajamas to help keep the heating bill lower while still sleeping comfortably.  In fact, saving electricity on heating also has the added benefit of reducing our impact on the environment.

While footed pajamas were originally popular with people of all ages, they eventually became worn mainly by children because of their sensitivity to the cold. However, teens and adults are again taking to these comfortable pajamas both for their warmth, and because they bring back cherished memories from their youth. Why Pajamas Make Me Happy

Yes, it’s true…Pajamas make me happy!  Here’s why:

  • It’s the ahhhhhh factor:  You know when you plop into that comfy chair, that cozy couch, that scrumptious bed?  You know what it’s like to just sigh that happy sigh?  Pajamas do just that for me.  Whether it’s a new fresh pair or an old  favorite, the yummy fabric always feels fabulous.
  • It’s the comfort factor:  Pajamas originated as a loose fitting garment and have always been famous for comfort.  Most of my pajamas are an elastic with drawstring waist which is really creates the perfect fit.  With the option to be loose fitting, high or low waisted creates perfect comfort.  There is nothing better than leaving clothes of the day behind and pulling on a great pair of pajamas…isn’t it a good way to kind of leave the stresses of the day behind also?  Pajamas are also there for those chilly days and nights when flannel just warms the body.  Flannel pj’s, cozy socks and a favorite drink got me through many a cold new england evening! 
  • It’s the fun factor:  There are only a few garments that allow for a full expression of personality to shine through.  Pajamas are one.  Pajama prints can reflect your love for dogs, flowers,cars, trains, soccer, cats, martinis, apples, dancing, cakes, golf, football, Paris, pansies, sushi,  ballet, bears and more.  A dog lover can wrap herself/himself in a pair of pj’s covered with happy dogs, pure bliss!  Having a bad day?  Jumping into a fun pj can only help.  For those who always loved their footie pajamas as a child, a pair of footie pajamas for adults provide a little bit of nostalgia and memories of innocence. 
  • It’s the versatility factor:  Pajamas just go with everything and fit my style.  Sometimes, I’m cold and want to snuggle up in a long sleeved shirt and long flannel pant just for the warmth and comfort. Or I might find extra warmth and comfort in a footie pant and shirt or onsie footie pajama in a great flannel or fleece.    Other days, I want to be more trendy with a pajama pant rolled at the waist for the low waisted hipster fit combined with my favorite tee shirt or tank.  When the weather is warm, I love the capri pant with short sleeved top. Sometimes, I love to roll the capri pant and make it a bermuda short….that’s very happy.  See what I mean, it’s all about versatility.  My pajamas. My way.
